Legends of Tahoe Snowboarding Competition

Tahoe ledgends of snowboarding happened a few Saturdays ago, an annual old school snowboarding competition. This year it was a giant slalom with about thirty-two competitors. The course was cool which allowed everyone to go fast. We were all riding boards dating back seventeen plus years. Boards like; 151 Barfoot Freestyle, 1550 Kidwell Round Tail, Craig Kelly's Burton Air, and Avalanche Freestyle Boards. It didn't really matter what board you were riding, as long as you were on a vintage stick. Everyone that entered has been riding twenty years or more, some even thirty plus years. This competition gives us a place to meet once a year, ride our old stick, and remember the good old days before resorts even allowed us on the hill. This year we honored Tom Hsieh who is celebrating the twenty-fith anniversary of "International Snowborading Magazine" (ISM); Tom, the owner, was the first one to publish a full-on snowboarding magazine. He contributed greatly to the Tahoe scene by showing the world what's going on here/ thx Tom. We also honored Billy Olson, long time donner shreder/commuter and Kirstin Bedard, a long time tahoe ladies riper. The competition went like this; first place-Jim Rippey, second- Dennis Nazari, and third-Tom Burt. Other riders included; Keith Kimmel, Shawn Farmer, Bob Klein, and many other old school rippers. Even Kidwell showed up for awhile and signed a few autographs; all in all it was a good day of old school shreding. I'd like to thank Don Bostick, Mike Chantry, and Fredog for continuing to promote the legends of Tahoe. Without the legends group of snowboraders, snowboarding might not be what it is today. Peace/AB

Andy Berendsen, Keith Kimmel, Tom Burt, and Bob
